Fake Parcel Delivery SMS Scam

Smishing scammers impersonate DHL or other couriers via SMS to steal payment data or install malware on your phone by faking a parcel delivery notification.

Published: 3 June 2026

The Scam Explained

You receive an SMS saying a package couldn't be delivered and you need to pay a small fee or reschedule. The link leads to a fake DHL/FedEx/Post page that either steals payment details or installs malware on your device.

Variants

  • "Your DHL package is waiting — pay €1.99 handling fee"
  • "Your parcel could not be delivered. Reschedule here:"
  • "Your package requires customs clearance, pay now"
  • How to Protect Yourself

    • Track packages directly on the official carrier website using your tracking number
    • Legitimate carriers rarely charge for redelivery via SMS link
    • Check if you actually have a package expected
    • Never install apps from links in SMS messages

    What to Do If Affected

    1. 1.Do not click the link or provide payment
    2. 2.If you already paid, contact your bank immediately
    3. 3.If you installed an app, run a security scan and remove it
    4. 4.Report to national consumer protection agencies
