What Is This Threat?

A sophisticated SMS phishing (smishing) campaign is targeting customers of Magenta Telekom across Austria, Germany, and neighboring countries. Victims receive text messages claiming their account has been suspended, a payment failed, or unusual activity was detected.

How It Works

  • You receive an SMS from what appears to be "Magenta" or "Telekom"
  • The message creates urgency — "Your account will be suspended in 24 hours"
  • It includes a link to a convincing fake website
  • The fake site asks for your login credentials and/or payment details
  • Your data is instantly stolen
  • Red Flags to Watch For

  • Generic greetings like "Dear Customer" instead of your name
  • Suspicious URLs that are NOT magenta.at or telekom.de
  • Extreme urgency ("24 hours", "immediately", "now")
  • Requests for payment information via SMS
  • Links that look like: magenta-support.net, telekom-verify.com, etc.
  • Real Example

"MAGENTA: Your account shows suspicious activity. Verify your account within 24h to avoid suspension: http://magenta-secure.info/verify"

This is 100% fake. Magenta never sends links like this.

    How to Protect Yourself

    • Never click links in unexpected SMS messages
    • Always go directly to your provider's official website by typing the URL yourself
    • Enable two-factor authentication on your telecom account
    • Save your provider's official number and verify the sender
    • Report suspicious messages to your carrier

    What to Do If Affected

    1. 1.If you clicked the link, do NOT enter any information
    2. 2.Change your Magenta/Telekom password immediately via the official website
    3. 3.Check your account for unauthorized changes
    4. 4.Contact Magenta support at their official number
    5. 5.Report the SMS to your national cybersecurity agency
    6. 6.Monitor your bank account for unusual transactions
